Marantz ST40L by
alan ralph
Hi All,
Yesterday I purchased a Marantz ST-40L from my local "Cash Converter Store".
Unfortunatly there was no user guide, however I have managed to store
stations using the presets. I just wondered if there are any other features
?
Looking on the Web I see very little information about this tuner, apart
from one for sale in France and the other in New Zealand. Any ideas why ?

Early digital recording. by
Eiron
This double CD:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wagner-Overtures-Preludes/dp/B00005UVAN/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1218540583&sr=8-1
claims to be DDD.
The first disc was recorded in 1990 but the second was recorded in 1972
at Abbey Road.
Surely digital recording started much later than this. Can anyone remember?
The first disc is OK but the second sounds like it was mastered on a
portable cassette...

HDTV by
Eiron
I was amused to read this in an old copy of Wireless World.
The Hankey Committee, 1945.
"The committee, after stating that it regarded the 405-line standard as
unsuitable
for picture sizes greater than 8*10" (i.e. about 13" diagonal),
suggested that
an improved system of perhaps 1000 lines should be introduced as soon as
possible."

The man who invented stereo!
On radio 4 tonight at 8 pm a profile of
Alan Blumlein, including; if I heard
the trailer correctly this morning, some
early stereo recordings from 1933.

No wonder people can't hear the difference... by
Glenn Richards
Something struck me the other day whilst reading this group.
All these "do they/don't they" arguments about speaker cables and
interconnects... if there is a difference then the likes of Pinkerton,
Phil Allison, Krueger etc are so busy trying to out-Tourettes each other
that they wouldn't be able to hear it over the swearing anyway.
And these people expect us to take one word they say...

Poundland and HDCD by
Adrian C
I buy a lot of music CDs from the usual high street stores (HMV, WH
Smiths, Morrisons, Woolworths) and online - anything interesting and
chart. I also buy a minority from Poundland - the national chain where
everything is a pound...
Strangely, most of the HDCD discs in my collection originated from
Poundland! - and no, I'm not selecting them because I'm HDCD logo
spotting. In fact some...

TCI Cobra interconnects against Chord Chameleon by
max graff
Dear all,
I have been using the adorable Chord Company interconnects and speaker
cables for a while. Has anyone reviewed TCI Cobra interconnects
against the Chameleons? If so I would like to know your experiences.
Cheers Max

Question about replacing capacitor with wrong rating by
Marky P
Hi,
I've been replacing all the caps in my vintage Wurlitzer Jukebox amp.
The problem was one channel was buzzing quite badly. Now ive done it
all, the bad channel has stopped working altogether (only a slight
hum). I checked my wiring and noticed one of the caps I changed is
the wrong value (22uF instead of 150uF). This cap is in the faulty
channel. Does anyone know if it would make that...

Mobile 'phone interference on an audio system by
Roger Thorpe
A friend of mine has this problem. His computer drives a usb soundcard,
the analogue output of which is connected to the amplifier.
I assume that the 'phone signal is not getting into the digital part of
the chain, and that the most likely entry point is the analogue cable.
Is that fair?
I'm not sure what cable he has, but I think that they're of the
audiophile tendency. I have a feeling that...

.wav background noise... any tips? by
Vipera berus
Got an Olympus VN-2100PC and it's ok in good conditions but struggles with
hiss and background noise.
Is there the ubiquitous nice bit of freeware that will suck it in and spit
it out as if it was recorded in an eggbox lined room?
File is mono .wav at 22050Hz 32 bit float
Cheers..

'Designed to accept a DAB radio input'... by
Dave Plowman (News)
Well that's what it says on the blurb:-
http://planet.farnell.com/email/cpc/WebOffers/july_11blp.htm
Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what it means?
Wonder what's new about it too - looks like all the other AS stuff I've

Low power consumption 5.1 amp/receiver by
Dave Arnold
I have an Onkyo TX-SR674E AV Receiver which has loads of inputs
including HDMI.
However, these days I only ever use the tuner and one of the digital
inputs with my 5.1 speaker system. I have been running the video
through the receiver but now my only video source is a MythTV frontend
with DVI output which can go direct to the TV.
So basically all I need is a 5.1 receiver to feed the speakers with...

Marantz PMD card recorder MP3 on the fly by
rvnuamn
Dear friends !
The Marantz PMD 560, PMD 570 or PMD 580 card recorders.
Are those recorders making the same MP3 recordings
as you're making on your computer for the sound-quality ?
For par example 128 kbits ?
Thank You inadvance !,
Raf Numan
