More ways to part the gullible from their hard earned by
Trevor Wilson
I just received a one month sanction on an Australian (moderated) forum
for calling out this thing as utter bull****:
http://www.furutech.com/2017/10/11/15603/
I love the way the company has strung together a bunch of
pseudo-scientific words to justify an expensive waste of money.
I made the mistake of challenging the importer on the lies promulgated.
Unfortunately, I ****ed off an...

Leevers Rich E200 by
Mariusz
Good morning all. Is anyone interested in Leevers Rich E 200? Powers up, motor is working, not very good cosmetic condition. I don't have any idea about the value so I am open for reasonable offers.
Thank you

A phase question by
Brian Gaff
I know this to be true but have often wondered about the science behind it.
In them old analogue days I built a Mullard circuit for an image width
control. Basically it was a device for adding the sound from the opposite
channel to the other from fully in phase, ie Mono, to completely out of
phase, but in the process, you could often find a position where the stereo
was wider or the sound...

Its a pity that.. by
Brian Gaff
So many well respected names in tape recording are now kind of just brands
used by others.
I noted when I did some searches, for example that Akai is now
headquartered in Singapore as a subsidiary of Grande Holdings, a Hong
Kong-based conglomerate, which also owns the formerly Japanese brands
Nakamichi and Sansui. The Akai brand is now used to rebadge electronics
manufactured by other...

DIY in audio and music by
Iain[_2_]
Back in the day, most audio enthusiasts were also keen constructors, valve amp kits, instructions for projects from Mullard, or circuits from Wireless World were put together on kitchen tables on rsiny Saturday afternoons throughout the UK. Speaker building was also popular. Drawings of Tannoy and Goodmans cabinets were available, and Kef produced Kefkits. For those who wanted to make music,...

Measurinf software. by
Dave Plowman (News)
Anyone know of (hopefully free) software which will give a real time
display of energy bands?
If say you fed white noise into an amp and the output to the PC, it gives
a graphic of the energy at different frequencies - a sort of instant
frequency response trace.
Thing like Audacity can analyse a recorded sample afterwards - I was
looking for something which will do it in real time.

Convert FLAC to ALAC by
RJH[_4_]
I'd like to convert about 4000 FLAC files to 16/44 ALAC. Most of the
FLAC files are 16/44, a few are 24/96, and a few are in between.
Speed isn't an issue - I can leave the PC (or Mac) running all day. I've
been using this recently to no apparent ill effect:
https://www.mediahuman.com/howto/convert-flac-to-alac.html
However, I want to be sure that the conversion is as accurate as
possible....

Mission tweeter by
Socodavid61
Good afternoon all. I have joined as I have just been given a pair of Mission 765 speakers which I intend to use in my workshop. The reason for posting is that one of the tweeters no longer functions and I was wondering if anyone was able to recommend a suitable replacement? Does not need to be high quality (sorry but I am not an audiophile) would just like to hear the treble and as they are...

Ancient history by

I've recently been writing up a sort of 'working biog'. Most of this isn't
related to audio. But the page I have just put up may have some details of
interest here. It can be found at

and reveals my lack of any fashion sense. :-)

Have we all lost our way.. by
Brian Gaff
A friend was extolling the Virtues of his new Sonus whatever it was, but to
me it sounds like aa small speaker in a box with artificially enhanced bass
all on one note.
It cost a packet too, but has some kind of convoluted distribution system
via wifi.
I do wonder if, Imprressive and different is the currency today, rather
than accurate in any way. Brian

Ouch who turned it up? by
Brian Gaff
Seems to me that more and more radio channels of Freeview have high levels,
much higher than most tv stations. Time was when only rnib connect radio had
this, but increasingly as more and more plump for mono, the volumes are
creeping up. Should they not at least try to balance tem with the tv?

What exactly is a 'Monitor' speaker ?. by
Andrew[_2_]
Somewhere, I read an article about a musician (maybe) and
he was asked what his favourite gadgets were.
One on his replies was his Adams monitor speakers.
This seems to be a German company and the only thing I
can see is that they don't have grilles at the front
(so how do you keep the dust out ?). They seem to have
an unusual tweeter, not the usual cone arrangement.
