Multiroom MP3 Solution
Hi,
Hopefully this is the place to ask this question, if not suggestions would
be welcome.
I'm looking for a relatively low cost solution (i.e. £300) to be able to
listen to my MP3s stored on my PC, from another 2 rooms. I already have an
amp to feed 2 sets of speakers (not included in the budget of £300).
I am simply looking for a Wireless Media Receiver with a remote which can:
1. Show track information, etc on the remote itself.
2. The remote to work from either room.
With regards to the speakers, I am also looking for a set for a bathroom
ceiling and a small set for the bedroom. Again I'm not looking to spend too
much.
Any thought?
Thanks in advance.

Maplin etc sell them. They usually come with a 100 volt line transformer -
simply disconnect it and wire direct to the speaker - they're 8 ohm.

If you don't mind a trail of wires, get splitters for the sound output and
connect any remote devices such as stereos to distribute the signal across
different rooms. You then of course will not have control over the master
source, but you can arrange playlists. That's just what I do...

They're usually only paper cone though, so I'd be wary about bathroom
use.

I've not found it a problem in practice, although my bathroom is large and
well ventilated. However, TLC do speakers designed for damp conditions and
they are two way, although only a 6.5 bass unit so may not sound as good
as the 8 inch ones. SK SP063 at 29.95 pair plus vat in both 4 and 8 ohm.
Best to have some form of 'tone controls' or equaliser on the amp feeding
them though - being inexpensive units a bit of tweeking will improve their
sound.

This looks like a cunning gadget, anyone here actually tried one?
Second question - is there an equivalent with built in amp and speakers (a
sort of wireless MP3 ghetto-blaster) I could carry round the house?
