Anyone got one of these? The online opinions seem to say it is OK for
small collections of mp3s, but not for large ones.

I just got one a week ago. I had a bunch of stuff in .wma but I guess
I will rerecord all of my cds to mp3. Have had to restart the
mediamvp service a few times on the server and and reboot the media
hub itself a few times, but only after I have turned the hub or pc off
or changed some things around. Once it is up and running it seems
pretty stable. I have played some large mpeg files and they play fine
on a 950mhz duron with 320mb of pc133 ram on a 100mbps nic card on
cat6 cabling. I got the Hauppauge media mvp for $100 with a $30
rebate, just saw it for $60 after rebate. The craftsmanship was
pretty weak. It was not even properly fastened. Overall, so far, it
is pretty neat. Sometimes the screen display is off and does not fill
the screen properly, other times it looks and sounds quite good.

If you have your .mp3 files in separate folders it can be unwieldy,
because you have to navigate through your folders on screen using the
remote, which is a pain if you have a lot of folders. I was actually
able to play a music file, have a slideshow and on the tv as well as
play a cd on the pc all at the same time so it doesn't seem to load
down the pc.

For comparison, linksys has a wireless b media hub but it will not
play video files because of the bandwidth limitation.

It is somewhat limited in files that it plays, but if you are talkin'
jpeg, mpeg and mpe it seems to be quite good.
