Default backing tracks advice? sorry if it's OT

i hope this isn't the wrong newsgroup to post this on, if it is, i'm sorry.

i was wondering if any of you could advise me on backing tracks. I've
recorded a couple for a singer i know, and he has said that there's a market
in my area for specialist ones - he's into his soul music etc, a lot of
which he can't get hold off, and knows some other singers in the same
position. Anyway, he bascially says i could possilby make a bit of living
out of it, if i went into it more professionally.

I know that someone would have to pay for the license to use the songs, and
all, but would that have to be me, or would it be the client's responsiblity
to get it. if i basically sold it as a service, would they own the rights to
my recording, leaving me unable to resell the track?

Are any of you currently working in this area? How do you go about making
sure you don't end up getting into a copyright problem, and end up selling
your own work short?

Another question, roughly how much is an acceptable price for say, a very
rare song that has to be made specially?

Are maybe, am i just kidding myself, and the age of "sharing" on the net has
pretty much killed this income avenue?

vicky
