Marantz and KEF
I'm considering buying a system made of
Marantz PM7200 apmlifier
Marantz CD6000KI cd player
KEQ Q5 loudspeakers.
or
BW DM603 S3
Does this sound as a good match ?

There are a lot of different combinations about around that price, but
on paper I would expect they would work together well. Have you heard
them ? If not, I would do, only you can tell what you like the sound of,
and it will sound different again in your home.
Try and get a home trial if you can, or at least a exchange if the
speakers don't suit your room.
The CD6000KI has been about for some time but is IMHO a good player, I
almost bought one myself a couple of years ago, I would compare it with
some other players in the same price range though, as Marantz does have
a house sound, that may not be to your taste. And before this starts the
"all non-broken CDP's sound the same" flame war, let me just say, No
they dont.

Of course they bloody don't. No two physical entities can *ever* be
identical in the final analysis - not even two 'identical' CDPs will sound
*exactly* the same and I'd go as far as to say that in the *final* final
analysis, even that a single sample won't ever sound *exactly* the same
twice. It just depends how far you are prepared to go to determine the
differences which, AFIAC, are rendered entirely moot when they move outside
the listener's ability to hear them.....

I have the Marantz and it's a chunky well built copper clad thing - I reckon
it sounds pretty good, a little easier on the ear than a NAD cdp I have,
with a degree more depth. Cheapo parts bin remote, nice display, daft
ergonomics, gets upset on occasion with cdrs, mechanically noisier than a
couple I've had, but not too bad. You should be able to get quite a
discount - think I paid 200 UKP about a year ago. I really don't think cdps
are the critical link tho - anything branded should see you through.
Marantz amp - can't comment, KEF Q range I quite like, and the B&Ws -
excellent vfm - but they do have a particular sound, bit too warm and mushy
for my tastes. Try to listen to the speakers in your home if you can - they
are the make/break.
