That's interesting 'cos the 1971 HiFi Yearbook has them listed as 1"
Voice
Coil(Aluminium) , Gap Flux 14,500 Gauss. Total Flux 60,000 Maxwells.
Paper
cone with double diaphragm. H.C. 6 watts RMS 12W Peak. FR 40-20,000Hz.
I got my data from an article by Gilbert Briggs. (Founder of
Wharfedale). They made them with both copper and aluminium voice coils.
The magnet might have been stronger in the later (1970s) ones.

Had another dig through my HiFi Yearbooks........the specs I quoted earlier
were in every issue from 1964( That's the earliest one I have - they could
be listed in earier issues, but I can't verify that) until 1975........
1976 onwards = oblivion ?

Briggs (in a photocopy of some pages from 'Loudspeakers' says that the
spec quoted is for the Super8 CS AL (Cloth surround, aluminium coil),
and that the RS (doesn't say anything about the DD) shares the same
AlNiCo magnet and basket.
Now as far as I know, the later Wharfedales used a ferrite magnet, but I
have no data on those.
The old 50s and 60s Hi-Fi year books I had, I sold on Ebay for rather a
lot of money so I can't look up the specs in there.
The RS-DD may be a different beast, if so mea culpa.

Early ones sell for over 25 pounds each on Ebay, or did when I sold four
to a Japanese guy in California!

Has anyone reprinted this recently? I think I have an old copy at work, but
am not sure as I haven't checked recently.
All the Wharfedale drive units, (like the Goodmans Axiom 301s and Audiom
61s that I like so much) were made in a number of variations.
Yes, I think this is correct. There are probably models that look similar,
or have similar/identical names, but may differ in details.
I have a circa-1964 Warfedale leaflet on the "concrete column speaker" that
lists:
Super 8/RS/DD
resonance 55 c/s, Pole dia 1 inch, flux density 14,500 Oersteds, Weight
4.5 lbs.
Similar vintage Warfedale gatefold leaflet leaflet lists:
Super 8/RS/DD
Impedance 10/15 Ohms, Pole 1 inch dia, Freq range 40 - 20kHz, Aluminum
voice coil, Roll surround and double diaphragm, Weight 4.5 lbs.
If anyone is interested, I've put more details on a webpage at
http://www.st-and.demon.co.uk/temp/super8.html
This shows a pair of (large!) gif images of scans from a
Warfedale pamphlet which is also circa 1964.
Units made at other times may well have differed from the above, though.
Don't forget that the Super 8 was mentioned in Gilbert Briggs 1952 book
'Sound Reproduction' so the design was around for a long time!
Yes. :-)
