Oh I see you think I should be in that forthcoming rec.audio.vinyl group

Has it turned that anti vinyl in here lately?

I doubt it.

Never say never ... all tho *doubt it* is not quite the same :-)

Funny you should mention that. I was actually going to audition Steve's
(prop. The Audio File, Cambridge) own, personal 'one-off' Anniversary
special when I fell over the ProJect RPM9 - which had everything I wanted
and was half the price by the time he had cut me a deal on it. (Ooops,
shouldn'tna said that....). But I never did get to hear it - he was going

to
bring it round (lives only a mile from me). (No good auditioning gear in

the
shop!)

Big missed opportunity! If you liked that you would have liked the CD combo!
Using appropriate amplification they are hardly distinguishable.

So, if anyone wants a PT Anniversary in some 'one-off' finish with (IIRC)

an
Artemiz arm on it all abs.

Better IMO with an SME V

The Pro-Ject Debut is an excellent buy for the money, no doubt about it.
I bought one 2 years ago and was so impressed with the overall
performance of it I recently bought a second one. Now I have one on 45
rpm and the other on 33 & 1/3. The supplied Ortofon OM5E cartridge is
easily upgradable ( if you really think it is necessary ) simply by
changing the stylus to one of the several others on offer in the OM
series.

The mechanical isolation of the Debut is very good as well when placed
on a suitable surface. The same drive system that is used in some of the
more costlier models is the same in the Debut. The major difference in
the Debut from some of the next higher up price range models is the Tone
Arm although the one supplied on the Debut is more than adequit in this
price range.

You must consider that the Debut ( now Debut II ) is not a high end
vinyl conneseur turntable but no one ever said it was. You still can't
easily beat the performance of this turntable with anything else in its
price range and for the most part even the next higher price range ( my
opinion ).

Audition one at a dealers showroom then audition one in the next higher
price range and maybe even the next higher one as well. If you can hear
any difference ok, but it may be likely you will not depending on what
you are actually listening for.

I have been using my Pro-Ject Debut II turntables to put some of my vast
accumilation of 45's & lp's onto Compact Disc and the results are just
fine for me.

If you are on a tight budget, the Debut is your best bet. Stay away from
those all plastic turntables sold for under £100, save a little more
and get the Debut, you will be glad you did.

I have owned quite a few auto changers and turntables over the years and
nothing has impressed me more than the Pro-Ject Debut in this price
range or even the next higher in most cases.

No, I am not a Dealer, just an audio enthusiast who likes a " good deal
" when I see one.

Given that it plays vinyl, it beats a £1,000 CDP in my book.

Hey Keith

Is this an example of those posts where someone asks a question about
vinyl and immediately gets flamed by the anti-vinyl crowd? There was
*no* reason for you stick an anti-CD note in your reply -- if this
what's going to happen on your vinyl-only ng?

He said "in my book" so it's his opinion. What's wrong with that?

I guess you need it spelled out for you Dormer. It's a gratuitous insult.

Resolved, every discussion of digital audio should start with some kind of
negative statement about vinyl, the more outrageous and insulting the
better.

Turnabout is fair play, right?

;-)

Wrong Dormer, this is not about me. It's about the guy who started this,
KeithG.

Nice try at attempting to make this about me, not KeithG who started it.

Default So, who has never started a thread of any description in all the time I have subscribed to this group? -- With a title of that length you would think you could go on, practically for ever. There are, however, limits.

two back!

Absolutely not. Most welcome discussions about how to get the best out of
vinyl. It's the cretins who insist at every opportunity that it's superior
to CD that will be best served by a vinyl only group. Although judging by
their posts, they'll soon run out of things to say.

Any difference to the cretins on here who bash vinyl lovers?

MrBitsy.
