DVD-Audio
OK, I have a DVD writer in my PC, and a DVD-Audio player. Can I make a
compilation of multiple CDs at full 16bit/44k onto one DVD-R for
convenience? Unfortunately, the player won't play MP3 on DVD so the
alternative is MP3 or WMA on CD which is fine, but seems like a bit of a
waste...

I think so.
Check back here later - I'm giving it a go right now.

OK, smacked off it atm!
Both my DVDPs don't like either WAVs or MP3s on DVD - the Pioneer says
'can't play disc' and the eBench says 'bAd dISC' (which is odd because it
also says NOd ISC when its empty..... :-)
However, I'm informed that the Cyberhome (from WH Smits for £49) will play
MP3s from a DVD R/RW.......
Looks like I'm screwed - if anything changes (feelers are out) I'll report
back here.

I would suggest doing it as CD-R or if you want it DVD player compatible
CD-RW. The way I have done it is grab the DD2.0 track from the DVD-A then
burn it as a CDA to play in my car. Works fine with little loss of quality.
*BUT* and there is always a but. Some DVD-As have copy protection encoded
on the disc and when you copy it you can have some nasty pops and clicks
also on one track I found a 16KHz sine wave noise through the whole track!
The disc was REM's Automatic for the people. To remove the pops edit the
last 2secs from each of the first 5 tracks.
Hope this helps.

Same finding here - my Aiwa/Sony DVDP won't play audio (wav/mp3) from a DVD.
Shame really, seems quite obvious ...

Yeah tried that, the only consolation being that I now have my favorite 5
albums on one DVD-ROM in my laptop now...
