Default second system PC 2.1 speaker reccomendations

Hi,

can anyone comment on using PC 2.1 speakers systems with a DVD player
to form a simple second system ? (space and price is a premium)

I recall that Monsoon were rated a while bback but I don't see them in
the UK. Anyone comment on the audio benefits of any PC 2.1 speakers
systems (i.e Creative etc)

many thanks

I have a cheapie Labtec unit which cost 30 quid at Currys. The little
satellite speakers are roughly egg-shaped and about 4" high; the bass box is
about a 10" cube. There's a volume control on one of the satellites. I use
it for background noises in my studio, plugging it into a radio-cassette or
a laptop (listen to Radio 4, Classic FM or MP3s).

It produces much better bass than a mini-fi costing 30-40 quid (night and
day, in fact). At a handful of Watts, it goes louder than I need for
background music, although I don't know if it would be loud enough for
watching films - the bass driver does flap a bit when it gets hammered. That
said, it should produce a better sound than, say, a portable TV.

Resonable computer speakers might sound as good as a cheap all in one hifi,
computer anything.1 setups tend to be very bass-heavy.

Second hand amp and speakers off ebay would sound a lot better.
