Given that it plays vinyl, it beats a £1,000 CDP in my book.

But the prices are creeping up (I wonder why? ;-) - at £130 it's expensive
compared with the ProJect 1.2 if you can find one for less than £200.
(Should be 'doable' - Google hard.) The 1.2 is much better spec'd (better
arm) and should come with a seriously nice Ortofon 510 Mk II cart which can
be stylus-upgraded if required. (My favourite 'easy listening' cart is the
520 Mk II....)

(At any rate, either of these decks brand spanking new beats paying similar
money for a tired old mutt that's had a quarter of a century of neglect and
mild abuse, IMO)

I don't have one myself, but I've heard several in action and they
seem very good at what they do, for the price. Certainly comparable
with "budget" decks of the past (not done an A-B but in general I'd
say the overall quality is comparable with my ~ 15 yr old Dual 503).
AFAIR the Debut has an optional RIAA pre-amp, useful if your existing
setup doesn't have a "phono" input.

I'm sure our resident vinylphiles will have more detailed opinions,
and be able to provide advice w.r.t. alternatives.

Hey Keith

Is this an example of those posts where someone asks a question about
vinyl and immediately gets flamed by the anti-vinyl crowd? There was
*no* reason for you stick an anti-CD note in your reply -- if this
what's going to happen on your vinyl-only ng?

The only one I have had my hands on, failed to impress, however that
could well have been a faulty one. There was a hell of a lot of motor
noise coupled through to the cartridge.

I would try and hear it before parting with money.

This - or similar is how the 'vinyl wars' *always* start. One of the
resident nutcases stating how much better vinyl is than CD at any
opportunity in any thread.

Think their day job must be Jehovah Witnesses...

What sort of motor noise? I presume you don't just mean rumble.

Anti-CD? You think that's an 'anti-CD' note? That's not an 'anti-CD note',
this is an 'anti-CD note':

CDs are crap.

That's an 'anti-CD note'. OK?

If you're going to troll, you'll have to do better than this - 2/10 (and
that's only for trying to change the Subject line)......

Ain't it terrible the way that CDP advocates turn every turntable question
into a flame of vinyl?

LOL!
