I would guess probably some model of Beyers. The cream rectangular
ones they used to use years ago were the DT202 (of which I have a
pair) and the single sided version with boom mic was a DT109.

The 202's are particularly good at keeping out external noise without
pushing your brain out through your nostrils.




Thanks for all who replied and a mail which turned up from someone
nameless in the BBC who says there're DT770's or a version of them!..
