All mics these day tend to produce a very similar output level. Are you
sure it isn't a matching thing? Low impedance inputs but high impedance
mics?

OK, I looked up the tech specs for the devices, I did not consider
impedance to be an issue when buying.


60D Mk2 input impedance 10k
Microphone output impedance 200Ohms
Old recorder input impedance 25k


Did have a quick look at the spec and it appears to have about 60dB of
gain available from the mic pre-amps. Which should be enough for most
things. But not sure if that applied to the stereo jack input. Do you have
a figure for that?
