If you are a genuine punter who fell for the sales pitch, ahem, well...

No. I actually write about this stuff.

A blog?

Yet another idiot (evidently a guy who remodels kitchens) who hasn't
heard them.

Hi Boon
I suspect you are feeling a tad stressed.
They are an Austrian brand, worryingly you seem to be conducting
your argument in this group along the lines of an Austrian from history.
From your words I imagine, that you imagine you are at a rally in 1930's
Munich, standing at a podium thumping your laptop whenever anyone
at the rally (this group) fails to cheer?
Now breath deeply and relax...

Isn't the whole point of these netty forum thingy's to question the
marketing spiel of brands, not post the actual marketing hype!
If you do really "write about the stuff" apart from a blog, shouldn't
you be questioning a brands claims? There is no mystery to speakers,
all drives are now sourced from a couple of production lines in China.
There are some who think all speakers have to be tested in a
space-time continium water chamber (or something similar?).
No they don't. In the example that you posted, it is a 5 inch metel thingy,
in a floorstander they would be the mid-range drive unit. All thats
needed to configure is the roll-off and x-over for a specific enclosure
size,
sensitivity and impedence etc. But there is no mystery of how speakers
are made and what they can or can't do. And the parameters for enclosures
are long established. As for cost - the biggest mark-up is the retailers,
followed by distribution costs. There is no R&D costs, thats all done.
Just a thought, are you a dealer?
If you really do write about this stuff (apart from a blog and usenet)
and if you really are cosy with manufacturers, then an interesting path
for you to follow is to ask the Austrians where they source that 5 inch
drive unit. Just another thought, Monitor Audio and Mordaunt Short both
use metel drive units?

Today for lunch I will be having a bowl of Heinz chicken soup topped
with grapes and potato skins with sugary Peak Frean bikkies for dipping.
