Default Linn K20 speaker cable etc.

more from the 'PJO school' of uk.rec.audio-ism:

Can you put some trunking in so you can pull new cable through?

No, it will go through too many corners to be able to pull. I'm not
worried about longevity or future damage as that's very unlikely as
the cables will be behind the skirting boards in a small chase.

My main concerns are 1) spending more than I have to & 2) buying cable
that will spoil the quality of the sound.

Why not try the maplin stuff laid out on the floor, and if the sound is
satisfactory THEN put it in the walls?

Btw, there is NO advantage I hae ever heard to expensive speaker cables. It
may interest you to that there's a $5000 prize offered for anyone who can
tell the difference between normal and magic cable, which has remained
unwon for many years.

Maplin also sell some 'heavy duty speaker cable' that is very thick, and
still only £27/100m - code no PA08J.

I used to think like this, I'd say to myself "but how can so many people be
wrong about fancy cables?" Well, I suppose millions of ppl believe the
relative motin of planets can predict the future!
