1) Gardening. (My wife is astonished!) I now have a hoe. ;-
I do hope that you haven't spent your retirement so far watching Jerry
Springer and picking up some Americanisms
I have heard the name 'Jerry Springer', but never seen his show(s). My
impression from what people have said is that they are "emotional wind-up
TV" of the kind that seems to splattered all over channels at times. Not to
my taste.
Be grateful of your ignorance in this case
Hence if what I wrote has anothe meaning in the USA then I'm afraid this is
another example of "Two peoples separated by a common language". :-)
Unfortunately due to the propensity for 'street level' African-Americans
to further corrupt the English language even more than their fellow
countrymen the term "hoe" is now used rather than "whore". Sort of along
the lines of "ask" transmogrifying into "axe".
The sight of Daisy Donovan, in her crystal upper-class English accent,
in the US trying to become a pimp - and accosting young girls, asking
them if they would like to be her hoe will stay with me for some time.
And actually "ask" is transmogrifying into something more like "arks"
The greatest shame of all is that Jerry Springer isn't even American -
he is from North London.
