A live broadcast could still go through the processing applied to all

Christ M8! They don't need to bother with processing at all!, all that
dynamic range they have available!. On my outboard DAC they very rarely
go anywhere near digital full scale bags of room in reserve no need for
anything to add or subtract to the original signal...
Apparently, the vast majority of the listening public just don't want
dynamic range - they want it all crushed up to maximum.

Maybe not quite right Dave. The broadcasters think that the public want it
crushed to hell, plus that the vast majority of radio listeners these days
are in the car (where compression can be a positive advantage) or aspiring
weeny-boppers hidden in their bedrooms who wouldn't know what dynamics were
if it swallowed them!
To be honest, how many people can afford to go to a decent concert these
days - even the ridiculously loud pop variety - to even find out what
dynamics really are. I know I can't!
