Hi Guys.
As my old CD / tape / radio is on its way out, I've just started
looking around for a replacement.
I've been surprised at how limited the options for DAB digital radio
seem to be. I'd really like to get a good micro hifi with digital
radio, plus analogue radio, CD and tape. 40 watts or more.
I came across the "DAB Cube Micro System" from Ministry of Sound,
but haven't had any success in finding any specs for it.
Does anyone know of anything suitable?
Most people who've heard DAB reckon it's not much cop. It's pretty low
bitrate (64kbps I seem to remember from somewhere), so it's not as good as a
decent FM setup. I'd spend the money on a decent CD / FM / Cassette setup,
rather than fork out a big premium for DAB. Of course, you don't get all the
stations you get on DAB.
A sky box or Freeview receiver is a much better platform for digital
reception. DAB I'm afraid has lost all credibility other than a AM
quality radio medium, with the exception of radio 3 but that is being
eroded from time to time.
If you really want to hear good high quality radio then get a half
decent digital satellite receiver without an outboard DAC and tune into
Bayern 4 klassik the audio on there is simply stunning, some of the best
you'll hear especially when they transmit a live broadcast.
Radio and audio quality just as it should be.
Pity the powers that be at the BBC can't do it the same way
