Default Separates advice

Hi,

Have just moved out, got a job etc. so I've been researching into putting
together a proper hi-fi rather than the Aiwi midi system I've got at the
moment.

Hi James

One or two thoughts occur to me.
First of all, at risk of sounding like a ludite, I believe that audio
reproduction only needs 2 channels.
Secondly - if your partner is playing "Crash Bandicoot" while watching The
Magnificent Seven for the twentieth time then you might be toiling to find
time to listen to music.

Why not set up a cinema system and a Hi-Fi as 2 sepparate entities?

The Hi-fi can be a fairly simple afair and will let you listen to / edit
your MDs in peace while your other half lays waste to alien invaders.

Recomendations on the audio side? Sugden a21 with a phono stage for later
use with a record deck. PMC SB1's - easy to drive, cute and sound good for
the money. Any CD player which takes your fancy! I've tried SACD and was
disapointed by the lack of available discs and the lack of support from Sony
when my machine stopped playing new SACD releases! If you want SACD then
fit a multi-channel player (or one of the "universal" players) into the home
cinema set-up. I'll bet you spend more time infront of the Sugden than you
do in the middle of the multi channel technoblitz!

All the best

David
